Cat Carrier Call Out!
We are seeking donations to buy additional cat carriers after a large surrender on the weekend.
We are also looking for donations of gently used pet carriers as we are finding it difficult to buy enough at local stores.
Last Saturday our One Family Welfare team helped remove 34 cats from a rural property. The property owner was overwhelmed by the number of animals while also dealing with a significant medical issue. We will care for two of her cats while she seeks treatment; the remaining cats will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated and put up for adoption through our partner agencies.
The costs for this event are expected to exceed $15,000.
Our One Family Welfare team temporarily cares for pets while owners seek help for themselves. In this case, we’re taking the extra step of helping rehome these cats to ensure their health and safety and to allow the property owner to undergo medical treatment without concern for how the cats are doing. In this situation, the cat owner was trying her best to help save as many cats in her community as possible before the situation became out of control. We are pleased she is allowing us to help find homes for the cats.

Update!
We have several updates to our post from last week asking for donations of cat carriers. First, your generosity has been amazing! We’ve received over 50 carriers; including many people who bought new ones and either had them delivered or dropped off. Thank you!
We are also inspired by the cash donations. You have generously offered about $19,000 to help care for these cats. We truly appreciate your support!
The first 34 cats have all received the necessary veterinary care and been placed at shelters for rehoming.
We have also collected another 14 cats from the property. These were the cats that more timid and more difficult to wrangle (and cats are hard to wrangle to begin with). One of our Peace Officers helped gather these cats. Peace Officer Stevenson is very good at convincing cats to go for a ride. The property owner refers to PO Stevenson as a “kitty soulmate.”
