The owner of the dogs taken into protective custody last week in Lethbridge voluntarily surrendered the animals to the Alberta SPCA on Thursday, March 30, 2017.
The Alberta SPCA immediately began the process of transferring ownership of the dogs to organizations that will be able to adopt them into new homes.
It is unclear at this time how soon the dogs will be available for adoption. They need to be spayed or neutered, and many of them will need a period of veterinary care before they are healthy enough for adoption.
Some new puppies were born in the time since the Alberta SPCA took custody of the dogs on Friday, March 24. The final number of dogs surrendered to the Alberta SPCA was 104.
The Alberta SPCA’s investigation into this situation continues. No decision has been made regarding charges.
