Family Violence Prevention Month

Learn where to turn.

Alberta has the third highest rate of self-reported spousal violence among Canadian provinces, yet family violence is preventable.

November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta.

It’s a time to increase awareness of the resources and supports available so we can work together to end family violence and build healthier relationships in our communities.

This year’s theme, #WhereToTurn, encourages you to learn what resources are available in your community to support those affected by family violence.

For Pet Owners Impacted By Family Violence

We have a program that can help pet owners! The Pet Safekeeping Program is dedicated to helping victims of family violence leave abusive situations by providing temporary care for their pets.

When Do We Seize Animals

Alberta SPCA Peace Officers sometimes need to take animals into protective custody. When they do so, the officers will post a notice at the former location of the animals stating the reason for the seizure.

Investigating Neglect & Abuse

Our Peace Officers investigate every complaint we receive. We can only investigate if we have reasonable and probable grounds to believe there may have been an offence under the Animal Protection Act.
