Animal Welfare on First Nations

Norm Running Rabbit in the animal control/animal protection officer on Siksika Nation in southern Alberta. It’s Norm’s job to ensure animals are not in distress while following cultural practices.

Siksika is a “free-roaming” dog community about 100 kilometres east of Calgary. That means the dogs on the First Nation do not have to be confined to a fenced yard, but they do still have to be cared for in a manner that ensures they are not in distress.
