On July 7, 2022, Bonnie Jean Charron pleaded guilty in provincial court to allowing an animal to be in distress. In June of 2019, the Alberta SPCA received a complaint of a sphinx kitten in distress at a veterinary clinic in the Cochrane area. The kitten was humanely euthanized. The owner/breeder of the kitten, Bonnie Jean Charron, was charged with one count under the Animal Protection Act (APA) of allowing an animal to be in distress 2(1), and one count of failing to provide medical care to an animal that is sick or wounded (APA 2.1(b)). Ms. Charron, as part of her sentence, Ms. Charron must allow Alberta SPCA Peace Officer to inspect animals in her care for a period of three years.
The inspection order expires June 23, 2025.
