Education Policies

The Alberta SPCA believes people have a duty to accept responsibility for the welfare of animals. EveryLivingThing.ca is the Alberta SPCA’s humane education website for teachers who want to inspire compassion for animals, people and the environment—every living thing!

Humane Education

The idea that encouraging kindness to animals will result in more kindness to people has been the underlying philosophy of the humane education movement for more than 150 years.

Any teacher can easily practice humane education. Using animal welfare examples, stories and lessons within the existing curriculum can add an extra dimension to your teaching. The ideas and activities offered by the Alberta SPCA education department are connected to Alberta Education’s program of studies, but they can also be used by teachers in other jurisdictions.

Privacy

Teachers or others who sign up to receive our EveryLivingThing e-newsletter or other educational material can be assured that their email address and other information will be used exclusively by the Alberta SPCA education department for educational purposes. This information will not be rented, traded, sold or shared, and will not be used to solicit donations by the Alberta SPCA or any other organization.

Teachers who submit information about their students’ activities are expected to follow the privacy requirements of their school division. The Alberta SPCA assumes that the appropriate releases for photographs and names of students submitted for our Make Your Mark program have been completed.
