Tips

A humane hero shows kindness and respect to animals, people and the environment - and encourages others to do the same!
It can be as simple as offering to walk the dog of an elderly neighbour, picking up litter to protect the environment, or being nice to a new student at school. Or it can be a life's work, as demonstrated by some humane heroes in history. Whether big or small, every act of kindness toward any living thing contributes to a more humane world.
Show others what they can do to be a humane hero. Make a short video or slide show (up to 3 minutes) that inspires others to be kind to animals, people and the environment. Your entry could win up to $500!
Here are some ideas:
- document a service project undertaken by a group of students;
- a fictional representation of someone who rescues a stray animal;
- a documentary about someone who helps animals;
- a “how-to” guide for helping animals or caring for animals humanely;
- a critical examination of an animal welfare issue in the news;
- a rant challenging people to act more humanely to animals and people;
- a public service announcement to raise awareness of an issue such as pet overpopulation, strays, animal cruelty, etc.;
- a story of someone who learns the benefits of being kind;
- an overview of an historical figure such as Louise McKinney, Grant MacEwan, or others.
Your video can be live-action, animated (hand-drawn or computer generated), stop-motion photography, digital storytelling or a power-point presentation. The only requirement is that it be original work. Enter individually or as a team.
