Kit Jenkins

Kit Jenkins is Program Manager for PetSmart Charities of Canada.  Before coming to PetSmart Charities, Kit worked for over 25 years in the animal sheltering world, focusing on animal behaviour (in the shelter and in the home), education for all ages, and peer training.  She is known across North America for her training, counseling, and writing abilities regarding shelter-related issues and program development.  In her current position, Kit continues to work with animal welfare people every day, coaching and supporting them as they work to strengthen their organizations. 

Duane Landals, DVM

Dr. Landals is the Registrar and Secretary-Treasurer of the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association, and is Vice-President of the World Veterinary Association. He is Past-President of both the Alberta and Canadian Veterinary Medical Associations. Dr. Landals obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon, and has spent 25 years in rural mixed veterinary practice in Alberta.

Cathy Housdorff

As Director of the Communications Branch for Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, Cathy has dealt with numerous issues. Her presentation on crisis communication will illustrate the importance of planning and cooperation between partners to handle situations you hope will never arise.

Rosanne Tollenaar

Rosanne Tollenaar is highly regarded for her extensive achievements in supporting volunteer capacity-building organizations, having worked over fifteen years in the nonprofit/voluntary sector. She now manages Alberta’s 27 Volunteer Centres, ensuring Alberta communities have the capacity to support volunteerism within the changing demographics of Alberta’s economy. Rosanne earned a BSc in biological sciences from the University of Alberta and graduated with distinction from Grant MacEwan’s Voluntary Sector Management Program. She recently completed a two year term as a volunteer Instructor with the Board Development Program.

Nicole Johnston

Nicole is the owner of Dogspaw Ltd., a multi-faceted facility in Edmonton and the first Trainer in Edmonton to attain her designation as a CPDT-KA. She holds a Professional Membership with the APDT, the CAPPDT and the CKC and she is also a CGN Evaluator, Mentor Trainer with the Animal Behavior College, and an evaluator for the Government of Alberta Service Dog Testing Project.  Nicole is also a Director with the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, and a Director and founder of Providing Animals with Safety (PAWS) for Life Foundation. She works with many of the rescue groups and shelters across the province by training staff and volunteers to work with the dogs to make them more appealing to potential adopters.

Cathy Thomas

Cathy has been a very active Board member of the Hinton and District SPCA for the past 9 years - an exciting time of building the organization and the recently-completed animal care centre. Currently the Vice President in charge of fundraising, in her "spare" time Cathy teaches high school full time  - currently Social Studies and Foods. She also likes to spend time with her dogs and husband.

Morris Airey

Morris has been with the Alberta SPCA for a total of 18 years, and has headed our Animal Protection Services (formerly Enforcement Department) for the past nine years. His former experience includes five years with the RCMP and 15 years running a mixed farm operation. During his time with the Alberta SPCA, Morris has seen a significant improvement in animal welfare throughout the province.
