InterpretationIn these statements: "Animal" does not include a human being. "Distress" is the state of being in need of adequate food, water, care or shelter; or being injured, sick, in pain or suffering; or being abused or subjected to undue hardship, privation or neglect; and may include physical and psychological stress. "Welfare" is a healthy condition free from distress. "Humane death" occurs when the animal dies instantly or is rendered instantly unconscious with inevitable subsidence into death without regaining consciousness. "Companion animals" means all domestic animals that are not livestock and are kept for non-commercial purposes. "Livestock" means animals raised and marketed for food and other products; or commercial uses including breeding stock. "Wildlife" means animals defined as wildlife by the Wildlife Act of Alberta. "Exotic Animals" means animals defined as exotic animals by the Wildlife Act of Alberta. |
